The smaller one I have is sandstone and very easily fractured. I had two of this same make, but one stone was way out of balance and it broke into pieces. It leaves somewhere around 100 grit scratches. Sandstone will fracture and wear quickly if you put a lot of pressure on it. It can have soft spots which will need dressed out regularly.
